Gutters

Estimated reading: 2 minutes

There are several common ways to fix gutter leaks:

  1. Seal the leaks: If your gutters have small leaks, you can use a sealant or caulk to seal them. This is a quick and easy fix that can be done with minimal equipment. However, it’s important to note that sealant or caulk is not a permanent solution and will need to be reapplied periodically.

  2. Replace damaged sections: If your gutters have large leaks or are damaged beyond repair, you will need to replace the affected sections. This can be done by removing the old section, cutting a new piece to fit and then attaching it to the gutter using screws or hangers.

  3. Re-pitch the gutter: If your gutters are not pitched correctly, water can pool in certain areas and cause leaks. To fix this, you will need to remove the gutter, adjust the pitch and reattach it.

  4. Clean your gutters: Clogged gutters can cause water to back up and leak out of the gutter. To prevent this, it’s important to regularly clean your gutters to remove debris.

  5. Check the gutter hangers: Gutter hangers are what hold your gutters in place. If these are loose or damaged, your gutters can sag and cause leaks. To fix this, you can replace the damaged hangers or re-secure loose ones.

  6. Check the downspout: The downspout is the pipe that carries water from the gutter to the ground. If the downspout is clogged or damaged, water can back up and cause leaks. To fix this, you can clear any debris from the downspout or replace a damaged one.
